This translation of the Book of Psalms has been prepared with readability and clarity as its primary aims. It seeks to present the meaning of the psalms in straightforward, contemporary language, even when this requires moving away from strict formal equivalence, traditional poetic structures, repeated wording, traditional expressions, or ancient idioms. As a result, some passages remain close to familiar renderings, while others differ more noticeably in wording, rhythm, or tone. The style is intentionally simpler and less elevated than that of many traditional Bible translations.
This work is intended as an ecumenical rendering of the Psalms. It was not produced to advance the interpretation, language, or theology of any particular Jewish or Christian denomination, nor was it shaped by the preferences of a specific religious tradition. Its purpose is simply to offer a clear, direct, and simplified translation of these ancient prayers, songs, and poems.
