This Element discusses the roles played by the idea of God in René Descartes' epistemology, physics, and metaphysics, and problems arising from those roles. The four sections examine Descartes' life and outlook; the Cartesian circle; God's role in physics, causation, and freedom; and divine creation of eternal truths.
